Description
Choose from one of the following activities:
Half Day Falconry:
You will be given an overview of the disciplines and history of falconry by one of the country`s best falconers, followed by a brief introduction to the husbandry and welfare of birds and the equipment used in falconry. The course will end with the opportunity to fly a bird "to the fist" so you can experience the unforgettable sensation of having a magnificent bird of prey on your arm. Programmes vary depending on location.
Horse Racing:
This full day programme includes a morning visit to a trainer`s stable, a trip to the gallops to see the horses at exercise and, of course, entrance to the members` enclosure for an afternoon at the races. You will be accompanied by a racing professional throughout, who will explain all aspects of racing, including - most importantly! - how to place bets. It could turn out to be a profitable day!
Please note that transfers from the trainer`s stable to the racecourse is not included and will involve a drive of anything from 15 to 60 minutes.
Owl Handling:
On arrival you will have the option of tea or coffee and given an introductory briefing. You will then meet the owls and be given instruction on how to handle owls safely and at the same time experience a close encounter with an owl of your choice.
You will have the opportunity to fly a selection of owls from the largest Eagle owl to the little Barn owl to the glove. The session will end with a discussion and a photo opportunity.
Parrot Handling:
The day starts at 10:30 with an introduction into the sanctuary with some history on parrots and parrot keeping. It`s then time for a guided tour around the sanctuary and seeing for yourself what happens within the only parrot sanctuary in the country. You will then sit down for lunch where you can have a general relaxed chat over your day so far. Then it`s time for some real hands on experience where you will participate in everything from assisting sick parrots to feeding the large macaws in their aviary with a little environment enrichment thrown in.
